Chen

Writing the Hebrew name "חן" in English is a trade-off between:

  • Chen - pronounced "Tshen"
  • Xen - "Zen" (yuck! /me hates this pronouncing a leading X as Z tendency) or "Ksen"
  • Jen - pronounced "djen"
  • Hen - pronounced with a "Heh" instead of a "Heith"
  • Khen - incorrect linguistically, and looks strange.

In any case, "chen" means grace when translated to English. It is a gender-neutral name, but used more often for girls.

There's a Hebrew-Israeli parody of Eminem's song Stan, simply called "Chen" (after the name of the Hebrew protagonist there). It is performed by Asi and Guri, and it is very funny (as long as you know Hebrew of-course).

It is also highly possible that the name Xena should be pronounced "Chena" and not "Zeena".
